Who we are
Lore & Lilac is an independent software studio run by its founder (“we”, “us”). By creating an account you agree to these terms and to how we handle data as described on the privacy page.
Your account
You need an account to write in the studio, and you must be 18 or older to create one. Keep your password to yourself and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. One account is for one person.
Your work is yours
You keep all rights to everything you create or upload. You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your work, show it to you and the people you share it with, make the exports you ask for, and — only for books where you've allowed it — send excerpts to the AI provider named on screen for the task you requested.
That permission ends when you delete the work, apart from the time it takes encrypted backups to age out (see the privacy page).
What we won't do with it
We won't train AI on your work, sell it, publish it, or claim it. The studio never writes or rewrites your prose. See our manifesto.
Using the service fairly
- Don't use the studio or its reading links to distribute material you don't have the right to share, or that's illegal.
- Don't try to access other people's accounts or books, overload the service, or get around plan limits or allowances.
- Don't resell the service or use it to build a competing product's data.
Trial, plans, reading packs and billing
The trial is free for fourteen days and needs no card; when it ends, your account is on the Free plan unless you choose a paid one. Paid plans are billed monthly or yearly, and reading packs once, through Gumroad, which acts as the seller and handles payment and applicable taxes. You can cancel a plan at any time; it continues to the end of the period you've paid for.
A reading pack is a one-time purchase of extra AI reading, not a subscription. It lasts 12 months from purchase, is used only after your monthly allowance, works on every plan and needs a verified email address. If a pack is refunded or charged back, its unused reading is removed.
Plan prices and limits are listed on the pricing page. If we change a price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you.
Refunds: if the studio isn't right for you, email us within 14 days of your first payment on a plan and we'll refund that payment in full, no questions asked. After that, payments aren't refundable, but you can cancel whenever you like and keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for. This doesn't reduce any right to cancel or withdraw that consumer law gives you.
When a paid plan ends, your account moves to Free: your books stay readable, editable and exportable, and AI features use a reading pack if you have one, or wait until you add one or choose a plan.
AI features
AI features are optional, off for each book until you allow them, and limited by your plan's monthly allowance and any reading packs you've bought — a ceiling, with no overage charges. Their findings and answers can be wrong or incomplete; they show their sources so you can judge, and decisions about your book are always yours.
Reading links
You decide who receives a reading link and you're responsible for sharing it only with people you trust. Anyone with a live link can read the chapters you chose. You can revoke a link at any time. Comments readers leave are stored with your book.
Availability and your copies
We work hard to keep the studio available and your work safe — a device copy, cloud saves, version history and encrypted backups — but no service can promise it will never be interrupted. Export your work regularly and keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose.
Ending things
You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, and where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to export your work.
Liability
We provide the studio with reasonable care and skill, but otherwise “as is”: we can't promise it will be free of faults or suit every purpose. We're not responsible for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen, or for indirect losses such as lost profits, lost opportunities or the cost of replacement services.
Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 US dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law, and nothing in them takes away rights you have under the consumer law of the country where you live.
Changes, disputes and contact
If we change these terms, we'll update the date above and email you about significant changes at least 30 days before they apply. If you don't agree with a change, you can export your work and close your account before it takes effect.
If something goes wrong, please talk to us first; most problems are quickly fixed. These terms are governed by the law of the country where Lore & Lilac's operator is established. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.
