Planning
Plan with the same scenes you write
Every planning view is a different window onto the same scene records. Move a card and the manuscript order follows; rename a scene and the board knows.
No AI involved Planning views are built from your scenes and the details you enter. They never send text to an AI provider.
What you get
Plotlines & pacing, in detail
- List with synopsis, point of view and status on every scene
- Board with scene cards grouped by chapter; drag, or move with the keyboard
- Timeline where story time is kept separate from reading order — an unknown date stays honestly unknown
- Plotlines: lanes for the main plot, subplots, arcs and romance, with scenes placed on each
- Pacing: words per scene, share of dialogue, sentence length and tension across the book
- Beat sheets you can lay over your scenes to see where turning points actually fall
How it works
In practice
Start anywhere
Plot first, or write first and organise later. Imported books arrive with their chapters and scenes already in place.
Lay out the lines
Create a plotline for each thread and place scenes on it. A scene can sit on more than one.
Check the shape
The pacing view shows long stretches without dialogue, chapters that balloon, and where tension dips.
Compare to a structure
Lay a beat sheet over the book to see whether the midpoint lands where you meant it to — then decide whether it matters.
Where we draw the line
What it never does
- Generate an outline, beats or scenes for you
- Keep a second copy of your structure that drifts from the manuscript
- Guess a date the text doesn't give
- Require a mouse — every drag has a keyboard or form alternative
These follow from our commitments. The studio never writes, suggests or rewrites your prose, anywhere.
Before you start
Questions writers ask
I don't outline. Is this for me?
Yes. Discovery writers often use the board and pacing view after a draft exists, to see the shape they found. Nothing here requires planning up front.
Which beat sheets are included?
Common structures for long fiction are available as overlays. They're lenses, not rules: you can ignore, adjust or hide them.
Does the pacing view use AI?
No. Scene length, dialogue share and sentence length are counted from your text on our servers; nothing is sent to an AI provider.
Try plotlines & pacing on your own draft
Import your draft from Word, Scrivener, RTF, EPUB or Markdown, or start on a blank page. The 14-day trial needs no card, and your book is exportable from the first word.
