Your studio, on every desk
The desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux opens your studio in its own window, with spellcheck suggestions and native menus — and keeps a restorable backup of each book on your computer. Your books stay in sync with the web, and the ones you've opened on this computer open even with no connection.

What the desktop app adds
Your books on your computer
Local backups save a restorable .zip of each book — chapters, scenes, story bible and plans — to Documents › Lore & Lilac Backups, or a folder you choose. While the app is open, each book you've changed is backed up at most once a day, and Back up now is always there. You choose how many copies to keep. To restore, open one with Restore a project archive; it arrives as a new book, so nothing is overwritten.
Links that open the app
Links starting loreandlilac://open/ open the desktop app at your library or straight at a book or scene — handy in a notes app or a to-do list. They can only open pages inside your own studio; anything else is ignored.
Spellcheck, menus and updates
Spellcheck suggestions, native menus and a guard against closing with unsynced words. Windows and Linux update automatically; on a Mac, the app tells you when a new version is ready and opens this page. The app may use the microphone (never the camera) only for the studio itself; if dictation isn't available in the app, it points you to your system's own dictation.
Opens with no connection. Once you've opened a book on this computer, the app opens it without a connection and you can keep writing; changes sync when you're back. The first launch needs a connection, and so do new scenes, exports and AI features. Backups are a separate copy you control, for restoring. More on working offline and desktop & mobile.
