Lore & Lilac vs Plottr
Plottr is a focused visual outliner and series bible, and it says clearly that it uses no AI. Lore & Lilac is a studio where you write the manuscript itself, with planning views alongside. They overlap less than you might think, and they work well together.
About Plottr
What Plottr is good at
Plottr is a planning tool for plotters and series writers. It offers drag-and-drop plot timelines, scene cards, filters, plot and scene templates, character and place notes with custom attributes and images, and a series timeline and bible. It can export outlines to Word and Scrivener. Its Pro plan adds web access, cloud sync and backups, and real-time collaboration, where each collaborator needs their own Pro plan. Plottr explicitly markets itself as having no AI.
The short version
Which one fits you?
Choose Plottr if…
- You want no AI anywhere in your planning tool.
- You plan visually with timelines and scene cards before you write.
- You want ready-made plot and scene templates to start from.
- You want a lifetime licence option.
- You're happy writing in Word or Scrivener and want a planner that exports to them.
Choose Lore & Lilac if…
- You want to write the manuscript in the same place you plan: planning views are built from your actual scenes.
- You want story-bible details that cite the passage they came from, rather than notes kept apart from the text.
- You want an optional continuity scan when the draft is done; AI stays off for each book until you allow it.
- You want a corkboard, beat sheets, a pacing view and a timeline with story time separate from reading order.
- You want version history, beta-reader links and book export in the same studio.

Fair is fair
Where Plottr is ahead
- No AI at all. Plottr explicitly has none. Our AI is optional and off for each book until you allow it, but if you want a tool with no AI features anywhere, Plottr's stance is simpler.
- Templates. Plottr offers plot and scene templates to start from; we offer beat sheets.
- Lifetime licences. Plottr sells lifetime options. We don't: there's Free, or Core and Studio monthly or yearly.
- Real-time collaboration. Plottr Pro supports it. Our co-authoring works scene by scene, not in real time.
- Fits your existing editor. Plottr exports to Word and Scrivener, so you don't need to change where you write.

Before you start
Questions about Plottr
Does Lore & Lilac use AI?
Only if you allow it for a book. Planning, writing, the story bible, stats and checks that run without AI all work with AI switched off. When you do allow it, only the excerpts needed are sent to the provider named on screen (Anthropic), never for training, and the studio never writes, suggests or rewrites prose.
Can I import my Plottr file?
Not directly. Export your outline from Plottr to Word and import the DOCX; you'll see a fidelity report before anything is created. If your outline ends up in Scrivener, you can also import the zipped Scrivener project.
Which is better for series?
Both support series. Plottr has a series timeline and bible for planning; we have series workspaces with a cross-book story bible and search across the manuscripts themselves.
