Continuity checks

When two passages disagree, see both — and decide

The story scan reads your manuscript for places where details may conflict: an eye colour, a ring that changes hands, a character who is somewhere they can't be. Each finding quotes both passages so you can judge it in seconds.

AI only with your per-book permission Basic checks run without AI. The full story scan uses AI only after you allow it for this book; you see what will be sent and the estimate before it runs.

These passages may conflict. Was this change intentional?

Ch. 4 · The bargain

At the gate she pressed her grandmother's silver ring into his palm. “Keep it until the frost is over,” she said.

Ch. 9 · Frost

Mara sat by the window and turned the silver ring on her finger, waiting for the bell.

What you get

Continuity checks, in detail

  • Both passages quoted side by side, each opening at its place in the manuscript
  • Each possible slip listed once, with both passages, rather than under several headings
  • Mark a finding intentional and it isn't raised again unless a passage changes
  • Scenes that haven't changed since the last scan aren't read again
  • Rumours, beliefs and an unreliable narrator are respected through truth scopes
  • Suggested story-bible entries, each with its source passage, for you to accept
  • Basic checks that run without AI at all, so every book gets a first pass
  • Send any finding to the revision desk as a task

How it works

In practice

  1. Allow it for this book

AI is off until you switch it on for a specific book. You'll see the provider's name and what is sent.

  2. See the estimate

Before the scan runs, you see which scenes it will read and the most it can use from your allowance.

  3. Read the findings

Each one quotes both passages with chapter and scene. Open either one in the editor in a click.

  4. Decide

Fix it in your own words, mark it intentional, or add it to the revision desk. The studio never changes a word.

Where we draw the line

What it never does

  • Promise to find every slip — no tool can, and we don't claim to
  • Change your text to “fix” a finding
  • Show a finding it can't back with quoted passages
  • Send private scenes, or anything at all before you allow it for the book

These follow from our commitments. The studio never writes, suggests or rewrites your prose, anywhere.

Before you start

Questions writers ask

Will it catch every continuity error?

No, and be wary of any tool that says so. It surfaces possible conflicts with evidence. Some will be deliberate; some slips it will miss. You stay the judge, and the cited questions help you check anything it didn't raise.

What does a scan cost?

It draws on your plan's AI allowance, or on a one-time reading pack once that's used (on Free, packs are the only AI reading), shown as approximate words of reading, and you see the most it can use before it runs. The estimate warns you when one scan would take a large share of what's left; if it doesn't fit, it doesn't start and nothing is spent. Basic checks need no AI and don't touch the allowance. See pricing.

What if a contradiction is on purpose?

Mark it intentional. It won't be raised again unless one of the passages changes.

Which passages are sent to the AI provider?

Only the scenes being scanned, and never ones you've marked private. The provider is named on screen and doesn't train on your writing. Details on the privacy page.
