A note for authors

Your editor uses Lore & Lilac. Here's what that means for your book.

Your editor may read and annotate your manuscript in our studio. This page explains, in plain words, what happens to your book there — and what never does.

Who can see your book

Your manuscript sits in your editor's private workspace. Other users can't see it, and we don't read manuscripts. It isn't published or shared unless your editor creates a private reading link — usually to send to you.

The notes you get are your editor's own

The studio never writes, suggests or rewrites prose, and it doesn't write editorial notes. Every comment you receive was written by your editor.

AI is off unless it's switched on for your book

AI checks are off for every book until the account holder allows them for that specific book. If your editor wants to use them, it's reasonable to expect them to ask you first. When they're used, only short excerpts go to the AI provider named on screen, and never for training.

What never happens to your book

  • It's never used to train AI.
  • It's never sold, shown to other users or made public.
  • No one gains any rights to it. It's yours.

When the job ends

Your editor can archive or delete your book. Deleted books are purged after a seven-day grace period, and disappear from our encrypted backups within about three months.

You can say no

If you'd rather your editor didn't use the studio for your book, just tell them. You don't need a reason.
